Is it better to get an organic mattress for a baby or get an organic topper to put over a regular mattress?
I was just curious if it is better to splurge on an organic mattress for an infant, or if it would be the same as just putting a nice organic cover over a normal infant mattress. This isn't a question about money or being cheap. It's just a question about which is better, or if it is like having a complete organic mattress if you have a regular one enclosed by an organic mattress protector/mattress pad.
(Please no 'I don't know' answers or silly things like that. I'm looking for real answers from people who have tried either. Thanks!)
@Lou: But part of it being organic is that there would be no pesticides. Also, I thought organic mattresses wouldn't have the flame retardant sprayed on them?
I will go organic, that's for sure, but the question is: Is it better to get an organic mattress OR get an -organic topper- for a normal mattress? Is there really a difference or will the organic topper not stop whatever chemicals may be in the normal mattress.
You are correct it is not so much about the herbicides and pesticides all be it dangerous the FR law changed everything. Is there a carcinogen in my mattress is an interesting blog http://www.stlbeds.com/articles/2009/08/20/is-there-a-carcinogen-in-my-mattress/
The primary reason is VOCs become air born a topper would not stop them. Second most toppers are soft and SIDS would be the other huge issue. Hope this helps. Organic crib mattress is a great option.
