Ready, Set, Holiday Cards!

Everyone looks forward to receiving holiday cards each year.  They are great for keeping in touch with friends near and far and for strengthening relationships with business partners and customers.  In order to get a jump on your greeting card list, consider these helpful suggestions for organizing the holiday greeting card process.

Mailing List.  There are books especially made to help you keep track of holiday cards sent and received.  You can, however, keep your own digital mailing list on your own computer.  Begin by inputting your current contact list.  Update addresses for those that may have relocated.  Include columns you can easily check for specific mailings.  Perhaps you would like to include birthdays, anniversaries and special occasions as well and refer to this chart throughout the year.  For businesses, now is the perfect time to refresh your mailing lists and confirm contact information and direct mail addresses.

Photo shoot.  If you are planning to send photo cards this year, go ahead and arrange the photo shoot now.  Or, look through your current photographs and see if there may be one that might work just as well.  No one said holiday photos had to include everyone in matching ski sweaters and Santa hats.  But, if that is your tradition, you can still go ahead and stage your photo shoot now before the holiday rush begins.  Often photos taken while on summer vacation make excellent holiday photo cards.  What fun it would be to share a scene of everyone enjoying a sunny day at the ocean when the snow is piling up outside!

Holiday card ordering.  You don’t have to wait for the snow to begin falling to get into the holiday spirit.  Order your holiday greeting cards now online.  Special savings offers are available well ahead of the season.  You may even want to consider sending Thanksgiving cards.  These greeting cards are growing in popularity and send a thoughtful show of appreciation that will be an unexpected delight.  They will also receive more attention than those Christmas cards that arrive in bulk and will be proudly displayed longer.

Pre-address.  During the summer slow season or while you’re enjoying a day of sunning by the pool, go ahead and address your holiday cards envelopes.  By pre-addressing your envelopes, you will have one more project done and checked off your holiday to do list.  It is also a great opportunity to remember those you’ve not contacted in awhile and perhaps send quick thinking of you cards for an unexpected surprise.

Now that you have organized your plans for this year, you are ready to focus on another element in preparation for the holiday season ahead.  Isn’t it fun to get into the holiday spirit early?  Wouldn’t it be nice to carry that special feeling of celebration throughout the year?
