Purchased an Evenflo Dual Breastpump and all it came with for storing milk are two cheap plastic bottles...?

When he does feed from a bottle (when I'm not around etc) I planned on using platex drop in.. So can I store the milk in a lined platex bottle instead of the plastic bottles that came with the pump? Is it safe to transfer the milk?? And I read that after you pump the milk can stay at room temp for 4 hours before it spoils, is that accurate?

If I got the milk storage bags I would have to transfer the milk twice.....I'm confused lol!

My wife has two pumps. The manual pump expresses the milk into a (sterile) bottle, which she then pours into a (sterile) milk storage bag. As long as everything is sterile, there should be no problem in transferring the milk in the bottle to a storage bag. Here's the downside---YOU MUST STERILIZE THE BOTTLE AFTER EACH PUMPING. By sterilize, I mean washing it and the submerging it water at least 180 degrees, or washing it in a dishwasher with a sterilization setting.

She also has an electric pump. The electric pump allows her to place the plastic baggies inside the two bottles.

As for Evenflo, they sell a separate disposable milk storage system. If you don't want to go through the hassle of sterilizing the two bottles your system came with, you may want to check it out. See the link below.

As for storage of milk, you should refrigerate it as soon as possible, but it can be kept out (if freshly expressed) for up to six hours (although I wouldn't recommend it). It can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 48 hours or in a frost-free freezer for three to six months (a week or two if you have a single-door refrigerator with an inside freezer). If you thaw the milk, first break it up and then warm it in luke-warm water. Use the milk within 30 minutes of thawing. Never microwave breast milk. Once the baby is finished feeding, discard the remaining milk---do not re-store it.
