What do you do to keep your toddler in bed during nap time?
My nineteen month old sleeps in a toddler bed, but nap time is a night mare. She gets up to play and doesn't stay in bed. If I lay her in bed she cries and then when I leave the room she starts playing again. It's an endless battle. Then when she gets extremely tired she ends up falling asleep on the floor by the door. How do I fix this problem?
I've been there and the key is to be consistent. If you have to put her back in bed 100 times one night...do it and the next day it will get less and less times you have to do it. It's an exhausting process but that's what it takes. Don't give in. She will eventually tire out and go to sleep in the bed. Just be prepared for crying, kicking and screaming. It will get better though...just be patient. Every time you put her back in bed...tell her what a good girl she is for staying in the bed and repeat this over and over. You will get her attention. But if she tries to get out of the bed...firmly tell her "no" and put her back in the bed. This will teach her that getting out of bed is not a choice.
